Breathing new life into discarded technology in order to help bring a local nonprofit into the 21st Century.
Many companies discard computers when they need updating or when something goes wrong. However, these computers often still have years of use left in them. To prevent e-waste, we reached out to schools, companies, and institutions to ask for their discarded computers. We assessed the issues and the cost to fix them, and then sold the refurbished computers to a local non-profit organization at majorly reduced prices. During the pandemic, the non-profit distributed these computers to its members, helping them stay connected and continue their education.
Teaching Information Technology classes focused on A+ certification to individuals looking to change careers.
We were approached by a nonprofit organization to teach a course on Information Technology. After brainstorming, we decided to focus on A+ certification, which is an industry standard that can increase chances of employment in technology companies. We created a curriculum, secured a venue for the classes, and recruited students. The first three classes has already completed and graduates are finding jobs in the sector.
Finding a low-cost solution to help children in their academic success during the recent global pandemic.
During the pandemic, the sudden shift to online learning left many school-age children struggling to keep up with their studies. While working overseas, I gained valuable experience and came up with a solution to this problem. I suggested to several non-profit organizations the use of a small computer that could be used to assist students with their school work at an affordable price. This tool would provide access to a complete K-12 curriculum for free, allowing students to work at their own pace or to watch instructional videos for topics they are studying in school.
